ARCOD is the acronym for the data rescue project Archive of Ocean Data, former Arctic Ocean Sediment Data. The projects aim is to make data evailable in electronic, machine-readable form which are available in Russian archives and literature. The project is carried out since 2003 by Dr. Evgeny Gurvich.

List of ARCOD data set in PANGAEA (this list is the result of a dynamic query and thus always provides the most recent status of the archiving process).

2003-2004

In total 1512 marine geological datasets from the Arctic Ocean were archived (funding by AWI). Data consist of core logs, party unpublished and data about the distribution of various sedimentological parameters recovered from Russian instituts and archives (example doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.728932 ).

2006-2007

An other 182 comprehensive datasets about the geochemistry of sediments in the Arctic Ocean were archived (funding by Pangaea). Data include a full meta description and are aggregated to citable data entities. This data citations always include an extended abstract and are made available via library catalogs (example doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.690351 ).

2008-2009

Archiving continues (funding by Pangaea & IODP) and is now extended to the world ocean. Geological data from archives in Russia mainly consist of heavy minerals, geochemistry and grain size analysis, compiled in 1000+ data sets. 2009 an additional focus was set in ARCOD on data from DSDP/ODP due to the effort of IODP to archive post-cruise data from the literature (see list below). A four weeks visit of Dr. Gurvich in libraries of Moscow (report) resulted in a list of publications and 500 tables copied from the Russian literature which will be made available through Pangaea in 2010. Publications will be added in full-text (in Russian) to the data sets, the abstract will be translated and added in English.

2010-1011

One person-year funding in the framework of German-Russian cooperation by PTJ as part of the El'gygytgyn project; continued funding through third-party money of Pangaea until 2012-09-30.
