The software Multibeam Converter is a tool to convert files or folders of files (ascii/tab-separated data files with or without metaheader), downloaded from PANGAEA via the search engine or the data warehouse to the ODV import format, e.g. for visualization or further processing.

The software is provided as freeware under the (GNU General Public License (GPLv3) and is freely distributed without warranty by the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research, Bremerhaven.

Installation

Open doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.758968 and click on "View dataset as HTML". Download the current version of MultibeamConverter to your computer.

Windows

Double-click MultibeamConverter_Win.exe and follow the instructions. If the MSVCR120.dll is missing on your computer, you have to install the Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 from Microsoft.

OS X

Open the downloaded dmg file with a double-click. Drag and drop the file MultibeamConverter.app onto the appliction folder icon.

Linux

Uncompress the archive to your user bin directory. Double-click MultibeamConverter.sh.

Reference and detailed description

Converter tools -> Create multibeam PANGAEA import file

Select one or more xyz-files with the file dialog and set the author ID, the reference ID, the event label, the cruise label, and the export filename (see fig. 1).

Converter tools -> Multibeam dataset to ODV import file

Open a multibeam import file or a multibeam dataset (e.g. doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.758959) downloaded from PANGAEA. The converter tool creates an ODV import file. Drag this file onto an open ODV window and follow the instruction.
