PANGAEA® - Publishing Network for Geoscientific & Environmental Data is a data library aimed at collecting, archiving, and disseminating data related to earth system research. It focuses on georeferenced observational data, experimental data and models/simulations which is archived with a metadescription following the ISO 19xxx standard.

Each data set has a bibliographic citation including a DOI as persistent identifier. The content is available in Open Access under a Creative Commons license.

PANGAEA is maintained by the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), and the DFG Research Center for Marine Environmental Sciences (MARUM), University of Bremen. Both institutes are hosts of the World Data Center for Marine Environmental Sciences (WDC-MARE) as a member of the World Data System of ICSU. WDC-MARE makes use of PANGAEA as its data archive.

PANGAEA is accessible on the Internet via http://www.pangaea.de or doi:10.1594/pangaea and has the alias domains pangea and pangäa (all with top level domain de).

PANGAEA is open to any project, institute or individual scientist to archive and to publish data.
